My name is Yamira Hernandez, and I'm a visual artist. I was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Puerto Rico, where, from a young age, I was exposed to arts, culture, and the vibrant colors of the Caribbean. Being surrounded by creative women in my family inspired me to express myself through different mediums such as phone photography, acrylics, line art, and digital painting.
Growing up in the city of murals, I was highly influenced by street art. I created stencils of Narwhals and drew little goblins on Priority Mail stickers to tag around the city. My style soon evolved to painting portraits of imperfect beauty where I started to break the rules of realism and bend reality. My goal is also to challenge viewers to question the perspective of their own life and enable them to enjoy this life and the next… and the next… and

I have 2 main projects and a collaboration I am working on this 2024:
GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS is an acrylic on canvas collection set to be completed in the summer of 2024. This collection is a homage to the being within every woman to reflect on the freedom, the power, and capabilities they owned as girls before society and negative influences told them otherwise.
The goal is to exhibit the collection in various galleries on the island, Barcelona, and in New York, culminating in a presentation at Art Basel 2025.
Narwail co. Priority Mail Series is an exhibition that will showcase the evolution of Narwail co. through a collection of past work on Priority Mail Stickers to current expressions on canvas using spray paint and old stencils. This series captures the essence of street art's influence on my work, providing a visually compelling narrative that traces the evolution of my artistic expression.
The WestSide Collective is a collaborative project where I'll be teaming up with 2 of Aguadilla’s talented upcoming artists, Bruma and Donna Darko, to create a collective of local artists.
Most artists think that they have to start this journey alone, but what they don't know is that we are all on this journey together. Our goal is to help inspire other creatives to jump start their art career by creating opportunities for artists on the west side of the island. Monthly meetings will be held to plan upcoming events like the following: organizing a 'paint by numbers' community mural, hosting artistic workshops, and a monthly pop-up featuring local artists. This initiative aims not only to unite creatives but also to showcase the hidden talent within our community.
